South Gloucestershire Council and Gloucestershire County Council negotiated a deal with First Bus that will see the service continue to run unchanged for a further 12 months whilst options for the future are explored.

This will allow both authorities further time to assess the 311 service and decide with the operator if it should continue in its current form or if service changes are required.

As well as running between the market towns of Thornbury and Dursley, the 311 bus also passes through Wotton-under-Edge and Kingswood in Gloucestershire, Charfield and Falfield. It provides essential access to health facilities for Charfield residents and is also a great way to get out and about and enjoy the local countryside, including the Cotswold Way.

Cllr Brian Allinson, Chair of South Gloucestershire Council’s Planning, Transportation and Strategic Environment Committee, said: “We are very pleased to have agreed a deal that will allow the 311 bus service to continue. This bus service is heavily relied on by its users, and offers a vital link between the towns of Thornbury and Dursley.”
