The library is working in partnership with Sodbury and Yate Business Association to host a free fact finding event called New Year New Business with tips on how to get you started.

So if you are thinking about becoming your own boss, the evening event will provide an opportunity to listen to speakers from the Sodbury & Yate Business Association and Yate Job Centre who will share their knowledge and expertise. There are four 20 minute sessions covering the following areas:

● Planning your business – the competition, promoting your unique selling point (USP), money and finance
● Setting up your business – National Insurance, book keeping, payroll, tax, VAT, and business structure
● Sales and marketing – web design, business marketing and advertising
● Where to go next – who can help you?

A representative from Job Centre Plus will be attending and there will also be members of the Sodbury & Yate Business Association on hand to give confidential one to one advice to any individuals (subject to availability).

Cllr Claire Young, Chair of the Communities Committee, said: “This is an exciting event for people who are interested in starting their own business. South Gloucestershire Council works closely with a range of different sized businesses to help create an environment in which they can thrive through supporting local business associations, promoting the area to potential companies and ensuring we have a well skilled workforce. This event may encourage people to aspire to starting a new business and make that all important step to becoming their own boss. We hope our entrepreneurs of the future will enjoy this event.”

Graham Bond, Chair of the Sodbury and Yate Business Association, added: “We are really pleased to be working with South Gloucestershire Council on this initiative; we hope the event will inspire local people to take the first steps in starting their own businesses.”

Budding entrepreneurs need to book on the event on Wednesday 30 January which starts at 6.30pm. Email yate.library@southglos.gov.uk or call 01454 868006.
