Year 11 students have been receiving their GCSE results today. The overall figure for South Gloucestershire receiving the provisional benchmark of 5+ A* to C GCSE grades is 53 per cent.

The top two highest performing schools in South Gloucestershire are The Castle School in Thornbury and John Cabot Academy in Kingswood. 71 per cent of students at both schools have achieved the national average of 5+ A* to C GCSE grades including English and mathematics.

The most improved school in South Gloucestershire is Brimsham Green School in Yate with 61 per cent. The school has achieved its best ever results with an increase of nearly 10 per cent from the previous year.

Jon Hunt, Chair of Children and Young People Committee at South Gloucestershire Council, said:  “I want to offer congratulations to the many thousands of students in South Gloucestershire who are receiving their results today. We know that they have worked extremely hard to achieve these grades and they should be very proud of their individual successes.”
