The new clubs will take place in Stoke Gifford, Winterbourne and Thornbury and begin this May. These new weekly sessions will provide an opportunity for older people to socialise and make friends whilst sharing some gentle exercise, a cup of tea or coffee, games and other fun activities.

There will also be occasional special events such as healthy eating workshops and excursions.

The Stoke Gifford friendship and exercise club will take place every Friday from 10.30am to 12pm at The Old School Rooms, The Green, Stoke Gifford BS34 8PD.

The Winterbourne friendship and exercise club will take place every Tuesday from 10.30am to 12pm at The Greenfield Centre, Park Avenue, Winterbourne BS36 1NJ.

The Thornbury friendship and exercise club will take place every Thursday from 10.30am to 12pm at The Chantry, 52 Castle Street, Thornbury BS35 1HB.

Friendship and exercise clubs are managed by local community groups and are coached by a friendly, approachable instructor with a specialist qualification in exercise and health for older people.

These new clubs are made possible thanks to the generous support of a Big Lottery Fund ‘Awards for All’ grant received by the South Gloucestershire Physical Activity & Sports Association (our local community sport network).

To join in or find out more please call 01454 862296 or visit www.southglos.gov.uk/A4L (details can be found in the Healthy Lifestyles Directory). The first session is free and there is just a small fee per session thereafter.
