Cllr Matthew Riddle is set to be confirmed as the new Leader of South Gloucestershire Council.

The appointment will be formally reported to the next meeting of Council on 15 October, following his election as leader of the council’s Conservative group yesterday (1 September).

He replaces Cllr John Calway who stepped down from both roles last month.

Under council procedure, the leader of the council’s largest single political group is also appointed Leader of Council.

Cllr Riddle said: “I am delight to be elected Leader of the Conservative Group and therefore the Leader of the Council and look forward to serving the people of South Gloucestershire in this new role.”

The Leader is a key role within the council with responsibility for representing the council on the Local Enterprise Partnership and other national, sub-regional and local forums.
