The event will take place on Thursday 6 September at 7–9pm in South Gloucestershire Council Offices, Castle St, Thornbury BS35 1HF.

Speakers will include Ian Gething, Conservation Officer, South Gloucestershire Council who will be looking at how local communities can become more involved in the process of investigation and appraisal of the areas in which they live. This will include opportunities for local communities to become involved in monitoring the condition of heritage assets at risk, and reviewing the lists of locally designated heritage assets in their areas.

Peter Insole, Archaeological Officer, Bristol City Council will be talking about the development of the online project Know Your Place and possible extension beyond Bristol.

Gail Boyle, Curator of Prehistoric and Roman Archaeology at Bristol City Museum and Parish Councillor at Pucklechurch Parish Council, will be considering the practical issues from a parish council view of ensuring heritage remains on the local agenda.

The session is open to individuals, member of groups and parish councillors who would like to know more about incorporating heritage issues into local plans.

“This is an important event for anyone who cares about their local heritage” said Hugh Soar, Chair of the South Gloucestershire Heritage Forum “South Gloucestershire has a rich heritage and we want to encourage as many people as possible to be involved in caring and preserving this for future generations”
