Two schools and a builder in South Gloucestershire have been recognised at this year’s Regional West of England Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards.

The event is dedicated to showcasing the best that the West of England’s construction industry has to offer and took place on Friday 20 June at the Bristol Marriott Hotel.

South Gloucestershire Council had 40 schemes shortlisted from more than 1,000 building projects completed across the West of England.

Two schools recently built in South Gloucestershire were shortlisted in the educational category. Wallscourt Farm is a primary academy built in Stoke Gifford by Balfour Beatty Construction. Andy Blake from Balfour Beatty picked up Site Supervisor of the Year for this project.

Wick Primary School’s rebuild was carried out by Beard Construction who were acknowledged for their building quality. Bob Farr, the site agent at Wick Primary from Beard Construction was also highly commended for his work on the school.

This year a new category of Best Local Builder/Traditional Craftsman was introduced with the aim of acknowledging the skills of local builders across the region. Gary G Bond ltd who works in Emersons Green and Downend was also highly commended in this category.

Andy Clark, Building Control Manager at South Gloucestershire Council and Chairman of the LABC West of England region, said: “The LABC Building Excellence Awards are an opportunity to acknowledge the skill and professionalism of the construction industry, which delivers high-quality buildings in the region. The great thing about these awards is that they recognise the success of small builders that are the cornerstone of the construction industry, as well as large national contractors.”

Further information about the awards including images from the event are available from the LABC website www.labc.uk.com

Regional winners will go through to represent the West at the national finals later this year.
