On Thursday 19 June, BBC Points West presenter Alex Lovell accepted a cheque for £1381.65 on behalf of Sport Relief at Cherry Garden Primary School in Bitton.

This money was raised by the school’s 182 pupils. Teacher and PE Leader, Clare Martin said: “The children took part in a sponsored penalty shoot-out. They had five attempts to score a goal with a football and five shots at a netball hoop.”

The Year 5 class led an assembly, where they presented Alex Lovell with the cheque. The children spoke about Sport Relief, how they had raised the money and how the money will help disadvantaged people across the world.

On accepting the cheque Alex Lovell said: “The money raised will help to make a real difference to people living incredibly tough lives both in the UK and throughout the world’s poorest countries. Well done to the school for all their hard work.”

Head teacher, Phil Winterburn said “We are really proud of the effort our children put into this fundraising and are very grateful to the families for their support. Thank you everyone.”
