Coronavirus (Covid-19): service updates, support and health advice.

Changes to library services during Covid-19

Our 12 main libraries are open.

To help us maintain a predictable service for our users while we manage an expected rise in staff absences due to Covid-19, some libraries will temporarily close on weekdays between 12.30-1.30pm, from Monday 17 January until Friday 28 January inclusive. Find details below under ‘Library staffed hours’.

Thank you for helping us to keep library users and staff safe by following Government guidance:

  • do not enter the library if you have any symptoms of Coronavirus or have tested positive
  • wear a face covering
  • follow the latest Government guidance on how to stay safe and prevent the spread of Coronavirus
  • we will record your use as part of the NHS Test and Trace requirement – scan the QR code in the NHS Test and Trace app if you have it
  • respect others’ space
  • use the hand sanitiser provided

All services are subject to change at short notice.

Some libraries – as listed below – will temporarily close on weekdays between 12.30-1.30pm, from Monday 17 January until Friday 28 January inclusive

It’s free to join the library, whether you’d like full membership (to borrow physical items, use our computers and enjoy our impressive range of 24/7 digital services) or online-only membership to simply access our digital services.

Full membership to use both online and physical library services: you can either join in person during staffed hours, bring proof of address such as driving licence or utility bill (no more than 3 months old). Or join as a full member online and we’ll mail out your card.

Online-only membership if you only want to use our digital services: sign up for instant online membership and enjoy using eBooks, eAudiobooks, eComics and digital magazines online straight away. Online membership does not include the option to borrow physical items from the library or use library computers.

Our free digital services are available for library members to download anytime….eBooks, eAudiobooks, eComics, digital magazines and newspapers

If you are not already a library member you can join online now on the LibrariesWest website – membership is free.  You will receive an Online Membership number which will work for our digital services right away. Please enter an email address when you register for greater control of your account.

Open Access is available for registered Open Access users 7 days a week at the following 12 libraries: Bradley Stoke; Cadbury Heath; Downend; Emersons Green; Filton; Hanham; Kingswood; Patchway; Staple Hill; Thornbury; Winterbourne; Yate.

Find out more about Open Access: hours of service and how to register, so you can use libraries at times when staff are not there (Ts and Cs apply).

Occasionally Open Access will be unavailable at specific libraries, for instance to allow for deep cleaning or building maintenance work to take place. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Registered Open Access users can use any of our libraries with Open Access. Please familiarise yourself with emergency exits when using a different library. Take special care if using Open Access with children as the library doors open when anyone walks towards them from inside.
