Dedicated tree scheme

You can dedicate a tree to commemorate a birth, birthday, bereavement, anniversary, wedding or special occasion.

Trees soften the landscape, provide habitat for wildlife and improve the well being of people.

We carry out a tree planting programme annually to enhance open spaces and to replace trees that have been removed.

To extend this programme, we are currently running a dedicated tree scheme, which gives the public the opportunity to purchase commemorative trees to be planted on South Gloucestershire Council grass verge or open space.

Plaques will not be permitted on grass verges or open spaces

We will endeavour to plant a tree in the location of choice although a number of issues may prevent this. This may include underground/over ground services, proximity to built structures or other trees/vegetation and highway visibility splays amongst others.

Depending upon location, suitable tree species can be discussed and the final choice be confirmed with our arboricultural officer.

Tree size

Trees planting on open space/grass verge will be carried out as part of our tree planting programme and therefore, to continue the uniformity of size will be 10-12s or 12-14s (depending upon species). These numbers represent the circumference of the main stem in centimetres at 1.5 metres.

Time of planting

The tree planting season takes place whilst the roots are dormant. This is usually between October and March.

The current costs for dedicated trees is between £180 – £240 depending upon size, species and furniture. This can be discussed with an arboricultural officer.
