Dedicated tree scheme
Our dedicated tree scheme gives the public an opportunity to purchase trees which can be planted on land owned or managed by the council such as public open space or on grass verges. These new trees provide numerous benefits for people and nature by softening the landscape, providing habitats for wildlife, improving air quality and our health and wellbeing.
You can sponsor a tree that hasn’t been planted yet for a celebration such as a wedding or birthday, or for a living memorial. The charge for a tree, planting, protective supports and watering is £350.00.
When you purchase a tree, we will try to plant a tree in the location of your choice. However, this may not always be possible for various reasons including if the location is close to underground/over ground utilities and services, buildings or other structures, other trees/vegetation or interferes with visibility on a road.
We will always try to plant the right tree in the right place and our tree officer will advise which species are suitable for the location.
All trees provided are between 3-3.5m in height and 10-12s (select standard) or 12-14s (heavy standard) depending upon species. These numbers represent the circumference of the main stem in centimetres at 1.5 metres.
Time of planting
The tree planting season November and March, whilst the trees are dormant. This gives them the best start in the ground ready for the spring, when they start growing again.
Plaques cannot be permitted on grass verges or in open spaces.
