The development by Barratt Homes will see 235 homes, including affordable housing and community facilities, built on the site north of Peg Hill.

Community facilities on the site will include three play areas, allotments and an area of natural parkland.

The Peg Hill site is an integral part of the North Yate new neighbourhood envisaged in the district’s emerging long-term planning blueprint, or Core Strategy.

The rest of the new neighbourhood will be built over the next 15 years and, when complete, will include a new local centre, new transport links and community facilities for North Yate.

Committee chair Cllr Colin Hunt commented: “The Peg Hill site has a key part to play in helping deliver on the Council’s commitment to meeting housing need in South Gloucestershire. This decision today demonstrates how the council, working with developers and the community is helping to bring forward high quality sustainable development in our district, within the plan-led approach of our emerging Core Strategy.

“This scheme will not only deliver a mixture of dwellings, including affordable housing, but will also provide new community facilities and links into the second phase of the new neighbourhood at North Yate.”

Subject to the delivery of strategic infrastructure it is anticipated that the new neighbourhood in North Yate will provide up to 3,000 new homes in total, together with a range of facilities including a community building, primary schools, local shopping, employment and sport and recreation facilities.

A ‘green corridor’ will be retained on the eastern edge of the site ensuring that the development does not impact on the separate identify of nearby Yate Rocks.

It is anticipated that work on the Peg Hill development will begin later this year.
