Members of the council’s Development Control West committee granted planning permission for the Stoke Gifford Transport Link at their meeting on Wednesday.

The mile-long route will run between Parkway North Roundabout and the A4174 Ring Road near the M32 and will include bus lanes, two new bridges and a separate pedestrian and cycle route on its western side.

As well as reducing congestion and enhancing public transport links in the area, the route will play a key role in supporting future economic development in the North Fringe area.

It will also provide a vital link between new housing developments in nearby Harry Stoke, and local employment opportunities and services.

Work on the £14m scheme is scheduled to begin in late 2015, with completion expected in 2017.
