During his tour of the district the Duke visited a local company in Patchway called Metryx Ltd, based at Aztec West, to present a Queen’s Award for Industry.

The royal visit continued to Filton where the Duke officially opened the restored Pegasus House at the Airbus site. The Grade II Listed art-deco building, which was originally opened in 1936 as the headquarters of the Bristol Aeroplane Company, will play a key role at the heart of the new Airbus Aerospace Park (AAP) – a state-of-the-art business park for over 2,700 employees that will help keep South Gloucestershire company Airbus at the forefront of global aviation.

Chairman Ian Boulton said: “For decades Pegasus House has stood over Filton as a towering reminder of our proud aviation heritage. It has now regained its rightful place as a landmark building where local people can continue to develop world beating aerospace technologies for decades to come. The staff of Airbus should be congratulated for their ongoing commitment to such a valuable industry which is of regional, national, if not international importance."

Emersons Green was the final destination for the royal visit with a stop at the Bristol & Bath Science Park where the Duke unveiled a statue to commemorate the park’s second birthday.
