Access West Fund
Following the success of the Local Sustainable Travel Fund (LSTF) and the Sustainable Travel Transitions Year Project (STTY) the West of England (WoE) councils have been successful in securing a further £6.9 million in funding to encourage more sustainable travel across the region.
The money was granted to us and the three other WoE authorities (Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset) after a successful bid to the Department for Transport (DFT).
The WEST projects (West of England Sustainable Travel) are interconnected projects designed to offer sustainable travel initiatives which can improve access to jobs, skills, training and education.
The West of England transport network is being transformed over the next three years with unprecedented levels of investment in walking, cycling and public transport that will serve to unlock growth in our enterprise areas and zone and provide greater access to affordable and sustainable travel options for our residents. Using this investment as our ‘hook’, the objective of Access WEST is to work with business, communities and educational institutions to facilitate growth in the local economy through increased uptake of walking and cycling and to break down the barriers that prevent our residents from accessing work, education and training opportunities.
