Some of our online payments including garden waste and licensing will be unavailable between 2pm Thursday 28 March to midday Tuesday 2 April due to essential maintenance.

We do not maintain street lights on unadopted roads. These are the responsibility of the landowner or site developer. You can check if a road is unadopted on the FindMyStreet website.

Tell us about a problem with a street light that is:

  • not working properly
  • damaged or knocked over

Reporting the problem will help us fix it sooner.

How to report it

You can do this either:

  • by signing in or registering for a South Gloucestershire Council account
    or
  • as a guest (we will ask for your phone number and email address, but you do not have to give it)

You will need to choose the exact light on a map – if you can not find it this means we are not responsible for it.

If you spot any exposed wiring or if the post has been damaged or knocked over, do not report it online – call us as soon as possible on 01454 868000 (24 hours, 7 days a week)

Check before reporting a light that is on all night, as our newer LED lights (2017 onwards) are not switched off but are dimmed from 11pm to 6am.

Our street lights and energy use page shows the timetable for installing LED lights area by area and explains the benefits of this technology.

What happens next

We will aim to:

  • attend as soon as possible, and within 24 hours, if the problem could be dangerous
  • repair the light within 5 working days of it being reported

Some repairs may take longer, particularly if there is a fault with the electricity supply. This is because underground cable faults can take time to locate and may need to be fixed by the power supplier.

Feedback or suggestions

The online form should only be used to report a problem with a specific light. To give feedback or to make a suggestion on how we can improve street lighting in South Gloucestershire email us.
