Better Bus Areas

What are Better Bus Areas?

We are working together with Bath and North East Somerset and Bristol to deliver improvements across eight bus routes spanning more than 35 kilometres from London Road (Bath) to Bedminster Parade on the A38.

This improvement scheme aims to improve journey times, reliability and reduce pollution by making bus travel easier and more attractive. It will also improve road safety and the environment.

There will be improvements along the A38 Gloucester Road, one of eight routes within the Better Bus Areas.

Bus stop upgrades

This year, there are six bus stops being improved:-

  1. Washingpool Hill northbound
New bus boarder and bus stop markings
  2. Washingpool Hill southbound
New bus boarder and bus stop markings
  3. Rudgeway northbound
New bus boarder, shelter and hard standing
  4. Church Road southbound
New bus boarder, regraded footway, new shelter and bus stop markings
  5. Masons Arms northbound

  6. Alveston Church northbound

CCTV traffic monitoring cameras

CCTV cameras will be installed on lighting columns along or nearby the A38 route (between Filton Roundabout and Almondsbury Sports Club) to monitor traffic flow and to enable us to review congestion hotspots and factors impacting bus punctuality in the area. Footage from the CCTV cameras will only be used to gather information on traffic flow and will not be used for enforcement or any other form of monitoring.

All information will be used to consider further measures that can improve bus usage by improving reliability.
