Misuse of the blue badge

Misuse is a serious offence. If you misuse a badge or allow others to misuse it, the badge can be withdrawn.

Please encourage other motorists to respect the blue badge scheme by using your blue badge correctly.

It is a criminal offence to misuse a badge. A badge can only be used when the badge holder is present. Any person misusing a badge can be prosecuted and can be fined up to £1,000.

  • display the badge only when using the parking benefits of the scheme
  • do not allow non-disabled people to use your blue badge. Please remove it when you are not taking advantage of parking concessions to prevent this happening accidentally
  • you should not use the badge to allow non-disabled people to take advantage of the benefits while you sit in the car
  • organisations that care for disabled people are given similar badges. Non-disabled members may not use these for their own benefit. The badges may be displayed only when the vehicle is being used for the benefit of disabled people.
