Town twinning
Twinning became popular following the Second World War and was encouraged as a means of redeveloping links with other countries and communities and to promote cross-border projects of mutual benefit.

Yate is twinned with the picturesque town of Bad Salzdetfurth in Germany, which has a history of salt mining and is a spa town. The association between the two towns was formed in 1985 and since that time there have been formal council and family visits between the two towns each year. Each time visitors stay in local residents homes and over the years many lasting friendships have been made.
Yate Twinning Association also have a busy social calendar with local events throughout the year, some of which are for fund raising.
