How to join the library
Joining the library is easy and free. Choose from two types membership: full membership to use all our services or online membership to use selected digital content only.
Sign-up for full library membership to use all our services: visit any of our libraries during staffed hours bringing proof of your address with you and you can take items out and start using your membership straightaway. Alternatively, complete an Active Card application online and we will mail out your card (your card will take a few days to arrive).
If you only want to use our eBooks, eAudiobooks, digital magazines / newspapers / eComics: you can join online at LibrariesWest. Please supply your email address for full control of your account, including easy PIN reset. You will receive an online membership number and PIN (any 4 – 10 digit number of your choice) which you can use instantly to access selected online resources. If you would later like to reserve or borrow physical items from a library, or use a library computer; you will need to visit a library, bringing your online membership number and proof of your address with you, and a member of staff will upgrade you to full membership.
Once you have joined with full membership you can use your card at any South Gloucestershire library as well as at other libraries in the LibrariesWest network which includes Bath and NE Somerset; Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole; Bristol; Dorset; North Somerset; Somerset.
You can manage your library account and access our online services 24/7, including eBooks, eAudiobooks and digital magazines, with your borrower number and PIN, at www.librarieswest.org.uk or on the LibrariesWest app. To log in you will need your borrower number (found on your membership card) and PIN. If you do not know your PIN use the “Forgot my PIN” option and an email will be sent to the email address we hold for you.
Your South Gloucestershire Active Card can be used at South Gloucestershire Lifestyle Centres. More information can be found at www.activecentres.org.
