Human Writes

Human Writes is a poetry writing and performing project for young people aged 14 and above, developed by Boomsatsuma as part of its programme of creative activities for young people. The project is a collaboration with South Gloucestershire and Bath & North East Somerset Library Services and is funded by Arts Council England.

In South Gloucestershire, students from Patchway Community College, Abbeywood School, and Bradley Stoke Community College are working with Patchway Library. Representing the three schools are our three South Gloucestershire Poet Laureates – Meagan Eyres, Katie Welch and Sophie Wembridge.

Throughout the project the Young Laureates are choosing their favourite poems, writing their own commissions and bogging about their experiences. You can read and see their work on the Boomsatsuma website. They are truly amazing!

As well as writing and performing, the Young Laureates are working with their schools to promote literary activity and to get more young people reading and writing work of their own. Spring saw a fantastic poetry slam in Patchway Library with the all the Laureates leading their school teams and plans are underway for a summer teen take over.

For photos of the slam and the latest updates go to the Boomsatsuma website.
