Children’s holiday activities in our libraries

Activities for children and families

Join our libraries this Jubilee and school holiday for a whole host of events for children and families.

Craft activities: Relax and have fun making crafts with added Jubilee fun. Most craft activities are suitable for primary school aged children and their families.

All events are FREE, but for the comfort and enjoyment of all attendees, places for many events are limited and must be booked in advance. See individual listings for full details.

Bradley Stoke Library

Cadbury Heath Library

A Royal Morning: drop in for family fun. Saturday 4 June

  • 9.30am to 10am Royal pre-school storytime session with an appearance from the Bookstart Bear
  • 10am to 12pm Tea Party with children’s crafts and tea and cake for all
  • 10am to 10.45am Royal Chatterbooks: join our Chatterbooks for a royal themed session for children aged 7 to 11. To book your place visit the library or email CadburyHeath.library@southglos.gov.uk

Downend Library

Emersons Green Library

Drop into Emerson’s Green during the school holiday to pick up a Jubilee Competition sheet to design your own Jubilee tea set or take part in the Jubilee Treasure Hunt. Prizes will be awarded for the best tea set design, and you can win a sticker if you solve the treasure hunt.

Filton Library

Drop into Filton library during the school holiday for our ‘Bunting Bonanza’ – make colourful bunting and help us decorate the library.

Hanham Library

Royal Fun Day: join us for Jubilee Fun throughout the day. Tuesday 31 May

  • 9.30am to 10am Royal Pre-school Storytime, with special appearance from the Bookstart Bear
  • 10am to 11.30am Royal coffee morning for all
  • 11am to 12pm The Oldland Ukulele Club will be entertaining us from with a right royal sing-along
  • 2pm to 4pm Free craft activities for primary children
  • Refreshments will be served throughout the day and there is the opportunity to meet our life-sized cut out Queen Elizabeth II

Kingswood Library

Queen’s Jubilee at Kingswood Park: join the library staff and other local groups in Kingswood Park to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. Lots of stalls and crafts available for all the family, with a special appearance from the Bookstart Bear: Sunday 5 June, 10am to 4pm

Jolly Jubilee: Drop into Kingswood Library for jubilee crafts plus a fun treasure hunt and pin the tail on the corgi!. Wednesday 1 June, 10am to 12pm

Patchway Library

Scholars Chase Library (Stoke Gifford Extra Care Village)

Staple Hill Library

  • Jolly Jubilee: Jubilee crafts. Tuesday 31 May, 10.30am to 11.30am
  • Lego Club – Coronation recreation: come and see if you can re-create the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (in miniature of course!) Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Gold State Coach, the crown, TV cameras, the Throne or whatever you like on a Royal theme. Saturday 4 June, 10.30am to 11.30am

Thornbury Library

Crowns, corgis, hearts and horses: drop in and decorate a crown, take a photo as a queen or a knight and join in with a royal themed treasure hunt. Wednesday 1 June, 9.30am to 11am

Yate Library

Drop into Yate Library during the school holiday from Monday 30 May to take part in our Jubilee Treasure Hunt.

  • Jolly Jubilee: join us to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee with a coffee morning, make a crown and have a go at a quiz. Monday 30 May, 10.30am to 11.30am
  • Jolly Jubilee Street Party: join us for traditional party games with a Jubilee theme. Monday 30 May, 2.30pm to 4pm
  • Crowns, corgis, hearts and horses: drop in and decorate a crown, take a photo as a queen or a knight and join in with a royal themed treasure hunt. Tuesday 31 May, 10.30am to 11.30am
  • Jolly Jubilee Street Party: join us for traditional party games with a Jubilee theme. Tuesday 31 May, 2.30pm to 4pm
  • Lego Challenge – Castles:  creative building fun for primary school aged children. Saturday 4 June, 10.30am to 11.30am

Takeaway Craft Bags

Can’t come to one of the activities in the library? Why not pop into the library to pick up your FREE bag of jolly Jubilee crafts to enjoy making at home instead.

Craft bags are available from Saturday 28 May to Saturday 4 June during staffed opening hours whilst stocks last.

Rhymetimes and Storytimes

Keep young children entertained with free pre-school story times and rhyme times throughout the holiday at selected libraries. Visit Library activities for babies and young children for details.
