Sports Makers is a key element of Sport England’s ‘Places People Play’ legacy programme. The programme will use the inspirational pull of London 2012 to recruit, train and deploy 40,000 new sports volunteers aged 16 years and over to make sport happen across the country.
These volunteers will organise and support hundreds of new hours of grassroots sport for adults (16+), creating new opportunities across the country and bringing Olympic and Paralympic values to life in every community. As part of the programme each volunteer will be invited to a workshop, where they will receive a high quality, inspirational leadership learning programme and be matched to a volunteer placement.
Who can be a Sport Maker
Sport Makers must be 16 years and over and new to volunteering in sport.
Each volunteer will initially complete 10 hours in a volunteer placement and hopefully a lot more. Volunteers can choose from a list of roles including; leading activities, coaching, officiating, committee roles, events, manager and coordinator roles. These can be as formal or informal as you like, you may just wish just to encourage your friends to get active. At each workshop there will be a menu of opportunities or you can come with your own placement.
