Dementia support groups in the community
There are a range of activities and groups to support people with dementia, from day services to reminiscence groups.
The Alzheimer’s Society
The Alzheimer’s Society provides:
- a dementia support worker, for practical and emotional support
- carers’ support groups
- Singing for the Brain in Kingswood, Thornbury and Downend.
- a weekly sports and social club in Bradley Stoke Leisure Centre.

Council run day services
We support adults with a range of needs including people with physical and sensory impairments, dementia and learning difficulties. We can help people to gain, maintain and maximise their independence.
Sporting Memories
Want to share memories of great sporting heroes and events? Sporting Memories weekly groups are a friendly place where people with dementia can tell us about their favourite sporting memories and hear stories from others who also love their sport. The groups also welcome the company of individual friends or relatives who share their sporting passion. Sporting Memories offers weekly groups in Filton Library, Patchway Library in conjunction with Bristol Rovers, and Gloucestershire County Cricket Club in Bishopston. everyone is very welcome to come along.
