About our children’s centres

We have six main children’s centres in South Gloucestershire. These centres are operated by friendly teams of highly skilled workers who can offer support, both in our centres and through outreach work.

Some partner and community organisations also use Children’s Centres as venues to provide their services to families.

What we offer in our Children’s Centres

The programmes delivered will be developed around identified needs of both individuals and the local community. Examples of what we offer are:

  • early learning and development
  • healthy lifestyles sessions
  • parenting support, including group parenting programmes
  • support for young mothers
  • 2 year old funded provision – on-site or signposting
  • breast feeding support
  • community Learning and adult education
  • careers advice and support
  • social/coffee mornings for parents and babies
  • counselling advice and support services, including for parents experiencing difficulties with mental health
  • baby massage
  • support for families experiencing domestic violence or abuse
  • antenatal and postnatal groups
  • play sessions including nature play
  • health and safety awareness
  • support for children with additional needs

How to access Children’s Centres

Each main centre offers both universal sessions, which are open to all, and targeted sessions which are accessed by referral through South Gloucestershire Council’s Access and Response Team (ART)

Spoke Children Centres

There are also a further five venues referred to as ‘spoke’ Children’s Centres – where a range of early years provision is hosted. However, in order to access support from our Children’s Centre team, please contact one of the main Children Centres in the first instance.
