22 July 2019 @ 5.00pm

Our staff have been busy today resurfacing lane 1 of the A4018 at Cribbs Causeway damaged by the Premier Inn building fire. The lane closure will be removed tonight by 20:00 (Monday 22 July) and the road will be fully open both ways.

22 July 2019 @ 4.00pm

From Tuesday 23 July 9.00am, people with vehicles still in the Premier Inn car park at Cribbs can report to security at the main entrance, with evidence of ownership (such as insurance documents/ log books etc) and they will be granted access.  There is sufficient room for recovery vehicles to access the car park.  Customers with other enquiries should contact Whitbread on 01582 424200 and ask for Guest Relations.

21 July 2019 @ 3.45pm

The A4018 will reopen in both directions by 16:00 today (Sunday 21 July). There will be a lane restriction southbound due to essential maintenance work alongside and on the carriageway.  A big thanks to the demolition crew and council staff involved to get the road opened quickly.

20 July 2019 @ 3.22pm

Restricted access to some businesses on the A4018 is now available northbound from Clifton Rugby Club roundabout to The Laurels. There is no access southbound from Lysander Rd roundabout. The road remains closed to all through traffic and HGVs.

20 July 2019 @ 8.35am

The A4018 at Cribbs Causeway remains CLOSED in both directions between Lysander Rd and the junction with Station Rd (near Clifton Rugby Club). This is to allow for the safe demolition of the remains of the Premier Inn hotel building following the fire on Wednesday 17 July.

South Gloucestershire Council has now taken over responsibility for traffic management and will be staffing the roadblocks while specialists make sure the building is safe and clean-up takes place. We are all working together to return the local area to normality as quickly and safely as possible and would like to thank our partner agencies for their sterling efforts and the public for their patience and understanding.

We will update you on the situation regarding the road closure as things change.

18 July 2019 @ 2.53pm

A major incident was declared on 17 July following a fire at the Premier Inn, Cribbs Causeway.

We have been working with Avon & Somerset Constabulary and Avon Fire & Rescue to put emergency arrangements in place and to support emergency services and local residents.

The A4018 is closed due to the fire fighting operations, our Street Care team are assisting with road closures and diversions.  The road is expected to remain closed for some time as the building is structurally unstable. Delays are expected, however the wider Cribbs Causeway area and businesses are open as usual and accessible via the diversions.

The fire produced a significant plume of smoke. Those in areas affected by smoke should stay indoors, keep their doors and windows closed and tune in to their local radio station or follow Avon Fire & Rescue on social media for advice and information.

Motorists who have to travel through the smoke should keep windows closed and switch air conditioning systems to recycle or recirculate air. If people need to be outdoors, they should try to avoid areas affected by any smoke or ash, or to limit the time that they spend in them.

Smoke can irritate air passages, the skin and the eyes, leading to coughing and wheezing, breathlessness and chest pain. It can also worsen existing problems such as asthma so those with these health conditions should carry their inhaler with them at all times. Anyone concerned about their symptoms should contact NHS on 111 or their GP.
