Process to adopt CIL

Legislation was introduced in 2010 that allows local councils to set a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL). A CIL allows councils to raise funds from developers carrying out building projects in their area for spending on infrastructure such as new schools, open space or public transport.

The council carried out consultation on ‘preliminary draft charges’ in December 2012. Information can be found at www.southglos.gov.uk/preliminarycil.

Consultation on ‘draft charges’ was undertaken in May 2014. Information on this consultation can be found at www.southglos.gov.uk/draftcil.

The council charges underwent an Independent Examination in December 2014. Information can be found at www.southglos.gov.uk/cilexamination

We formally adopted the CIL charges and the CIL & S106 Guide SPD at Full Council on 18 March.
