Problems with drinking water

If you have a complaint about drinking water, you should contact the water company that sends you bills. If you notice any gross pollution of drinking water, particularly involving a premises where food is made or sold, please contact us.

If you have a complaint about drinking water, you should contact the water company that sends you bills. In South Gloucestershire this is mainly Bristol Water, though some homes in the north of the area are supplied by Severn Trent Water.

If you notice any chemical or biological contamination, you should contact the water company immediately.

If you notice any gross pollution of drinking water, particularly involving a premises where food is made or sold, please contact us. If the incident is out-of-hours, please phone our on-call Environmental Services Officer if the office is not open the next day. If you have any concerns about the quality of private drinking water, please call us on the next working day.

Common complaints

Brown colour: normally due to maintenance work on the main. Try running the cold tap for several minutes to flush out any sediment.

Milky white water: normally due to air trapped in the water supply following maintenance work on the main. Leave a glass of water to stand for a few minutes, and the water will clear from the bottom of the glass upwards.
