Section 251 outturn statements

The Section 251 outturn statement provides information on the year’s actual local authority spending. These documents were previously known as Section 52.

Local education authorities (LA) are required under Section 251 of the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009, to prepare and publish both budget and outturn statements each year. The statements are intended to provide a clear picture of how much the LA has spent on its Schools Budget, other education budgets and other children’s social services budgets and how much of the Schools Budget the LA has retained centrally and spent on schools.

The format of each statement is prescribed by the Department for Education. The outturn statement provides information on the year’s actual spending.
