Future High Street engagement for Kingswood

Kingswood is one of 100 towns competing for a share of the Government’s £1bn Future High Streets Fund. Successful high streets could secure between £5m – £25m and we must submit a bid by the end of June.

You can read the proposed details and in summary the proposals include:

  • promoting high street heritage and culture – including full restoration of Whitfield Tabernacle on Park Road and developing a cultural events programme for Regent Street
  • investment in high street premises – a programme of potential investment in property, identifying those that are under-utilised, vacant or facing other challenges.
  • a vibrant cultural heart – pedestrianisation of part of Regent Street to enable a significant programme of investment in the public space

Next steps

We will consider you responses to this engagement in the development of the business case to the Government. We are continuing to work on packages of investment through the ‘Love our High Streets’ Fund and developing a Masterplan, read more about this on our Love our High Streets – Kingswood page. If there is support for pedestrianisation, a full consultation identifying the preferred option and responding to this engagement will take place. We will also run further consultation on the developing Masterplan for Kingswood town centre. The timing of further consultation will be subject to relevant funding and delivery implications and will need to be delivered in line with any relevant social-distancing requirements.
