Farming - cattle tagging

All cattle must be tagged with Defra-approved ear tags.

There must be one yellow ear tag that is readable from a distance and a second ear tag with the same number as the yellow ear tag. Tags are placed on different ears. Both tags will have the same herd number and individual animal number.

Dairy cattle must be tagged within 36 hours of being born whilst all other cattle must be tagged within 20 days. Except for dairy cattle, both primary and secondary tags must be applied at the same time.
