Farming - cattle passports

All cattle born after 1st July 1996 must have a passport.

A cattle passport is a government issued document which states an animal’s:

  • date of birth
  • official ear tag number
  • ear tag number of the dam
  • breed
  • sex

All cattle born after 1st July 1996 must have a passport. The passport stays with the animal throughout its life and includes all movements and changes of ownership.
