Avian Influenza

Avian Influenza Update – 2 May 2022

On 2 May 2022 the mandatory housing measures for poultry and captive birds were lifted (keepers of poultry and captive birds are still required to take certain biosecurity measures). The Avian Influenza Prevention Zone is still in force.

These measures apply to all keepers regardless of flock size or if the birds are pets.

The restrictions will be in place until further notice and will be kept under regular review as part of Defra’s work to monitor the threat of Avian Influenza.

Keepers of poultry and captive birds are also reminded to stay vigilant to signs of the disease in their birds and to continue to practice good biosecurity.

You can find out more information and details of the requirements of the prevention zone on GOV.UK’s Avian Influenza pages.
