Animal Welfare Charter
The council has recently reviewed its Animal Welfare Charter which was first introduced in 1998. The review involved councillors and front line staff from across the organisation and looked at changes to animal welfare legislation since the introduction of the original charter in 1998.
The introduction of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 was a major change to the way animal welfare was enforced and changes within the charter reflect these new legislative requirements.
The working group considered a number of recent issues as part of the review and agreed to continue monitoring any proposed changes to animal licensing legislation due for implementation in October 2018, as well as any changes or modification to animal welfare legislation as a result of Brexit.
