Changes to bus services

Bus companies can make changes to their services by giving eight weeks’ notice to the traffic commissioner and the council. Under certain circumstances, the traffic commissioner can give permission for changes at shorter notice.

Lyde Green Park and Ride

Lyde Green Park and Ride car park will be open from Monday 17 July. Parking is free and cycle racks available. There are new bus stops situated on Willowherb Road outside the site in both directions. Services 10, 10A, 86, 462 and X48 will now serve these stops.

Bromley Heath Viaduct diversions

From Monday 24 July the contraflow between Bromley Heath roundabout and Hambrook junction will be in place.

Service X47 will divert from Badminton Road and operate as per service 47 in both directions. This service will remain non-stop between Badminton Road and Central Bristol.

Services 10, 10A (from 3 September) & 46 will operate normal routes when heading toward Southmead Hospital & Bristol Bus Station respectively.

Services 10, 10A & 46 heading northbound on Frenchay Park Road/Bristol Road will be unable to make the ahead movement at the Hambrook junction. Both services will turn left, go around the M32 Junction 1 returning back along A4174 eastbound to resume normal route from Hambrook junction.

Services A3, 19, 19A, X48, 462 and 680 will operate normal route in both directions.

Congestion in the areas surrounding Hambrook and Bromley Heath is likely to increase as a result of these works. As such directly affected services (listed above) and indirectly affected services (those operating in and around the surrounding areas) may become disrupted during busy periods.

Service changes 17 September 2017

Service 10A – Wessex Bus (Lyde Green – Downend – UWE Frenchay Campus) in response to delays expected by Bromley Heath viaduct works, service 10A will provide additional journeys at peak times between Lyde Green and UWE Frenchay Campus using the same route as service 10. This service will depart from Lyde Green at 0720, 0740, 0830 and 0850. Return journeys from UWE Frenchay Campus will depart at 1555, 1625, 1715 and 1745.

Service 35A – First (Lawrence Hill – Kingswood – Bridgeyate) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. No change to route.

Service 42/42A – First (Bitton – Oldland Common – Kingswood – Lawrence Hill – Bristol Centre) some Monday to Friday Service 42A morning peak journeys from Kingswood to the City Centre and re-numbered Service 42 and will be back started at Bitton.

Service 43 – First (Cadbury Heath – Kingswood – Lawrence Hill – Bristol Centre) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. No change to route.

Service 48A – First (UWE Frenchay Campus – Blackberry Hill – Fishponds – Bristol Centre) Monday to Friday University schedule will be reinstated, which sees the frequency of buses increased to every 10 minutes throughout the day. No change to route.

Service 70 – First (UWE Frenchay Campus – Filton Avenue – Cromwell Road – Bristol Centre – Bristol Temple Meads) the Monday to Friday University schedule will be reinstated, which sees the frequency of buses increased to every 15 minutes throughout the day. No change to route.

Service 71 – First (UWE Frenchay Campus – Filton Avenue – Gloucester Road – Bristol Centre – UWE Bower Ashton Campus) the Monday to Friday University schedule will be reinstated, which sees the frequency of buses increased to every 15 minutes throughout the day. No change to Route.

Service UWE – First (UWE – M32 – Bristol Centre) Service UWE will be reinstated for the new academic year at UWE. During the Monday to Friday peaks, the frequency of buses will be increased to every 7/8 minutes. Some Monday to Friday early morning journeys are withdrawn.

Monday to Friday at off-peak times, the frequency will be every 15 minutes and during the evening, the frequency will be every 20 minutes until approximately 0300. Saturday and Sunday daytime, the frequency will be every 30 minutes. During University holidays buses will operate every 30 minutes Monday to Friday only. No change to route.

Term time from 3 September 2017 until 10 December 2017; holiday time from 11 December 2017 until 7 January 2018; term timetable from 8 January 2018 until 29 April 2018.

Service Changes 3 September 2017

Service 5 – First Bus (Downend – Fishponds – Eastville – Bristol Centre) Some Monday to Saturday early morning journeys will be withdrawn and the evening frequency will be reduced from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes. No change to route.

Service 10 – Wessex Bus (Lyde Green – Downend – UWE – Southmead Hospital) First Bus have served notice on the 18 service as it has not proved to be commercially viable to operate. South Gloucestershire Council has procured a replacement service to operate between Lyde Green and Southmead Hospital via Mangotsfield, Downend, Frenchay, UWE Frenchay Campus, Bristol Parkway and Little Stoke. This service will be operated by Wessex Bus and will operate every 60 minutes Monday to Friday, last journey from Lyde Green will be 19:00, last journey from Southmead Hospital is 19:30.

Bristol City Council has procured a replacement service to operate between Avonmouth and Southmead Hospital. This service will be operated by Wessex Bus and numbered Service 11/11A.

Service 18 – First Bus (Lyde Green – Downend – UWE – Southmead Hospital – Henbury) Service 18 and 18A have been cancelled by the operator, South Gloucestershire Council has procured a replacement service to operate between Lyde Green and Southmead Hospital operated by Wessex Bus see service 10 for details.

Bristol City Council has procured a replacement service to operate between Avonmouth and Southmead Hospital only. This service will be operated by Wessex Bus and numbered Service 11/11A.

Service 19 – First Bus (Cribbs Causeway – Bristol Parkway – UWE – Downend – Kingswood – Bitton – Bath) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation during the day. No change to route.

Service 19A – First Bus (Cribbs Causeway – Bristol Parkway – UWE – Downend – Kingswood – Keynsham – Bath) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation during the day. There will be additional Monday to Friday journeys from Keynsham to Bath at 0708 and 0735. No change to route.

Service 27 – Community Connexions (Tetbury – Westonbirt – Old Sodbury) this service has been cancelled by the operator, see service 69 for replacement route operated by Stagecoach.

Service 37 – First Bus (Bristol – Hanham – Longwell Green – Bitton – Bath) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. No change to route.

Service 41 – Coachstyle (Yate – Chipping Sodbury – Acton Turville – Badminton – Malmesbury) timetable amended in Malmesbury on school day journeys only, No change to route or timetable within South Gloucestershire.

Service 46 – First Bus (Bristol Centre – Frenchay – Hambrook – Winterbourne – Yate) Monday to Friday timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. No change to route.

Service 60 – Stagecoach (Gloucester – Dursley – W-u-E – Thornbury) timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. All journeys between Dursley and Gloucester will serve Cam & Dursley Station, with buses timed to meet trains to and from Bristol.

In Gloucester, buses will run from Waterwells Drive via Telford Way, Naas Lane and Bristol Rd to serve Quedgeley stops. In Dursley, the Lower Cam and Woodfield Estates will now be served by 62, not 60.

Service 62 – Stagecoach (Gloucester – Dursley – Berkeley – Bristol Centre) all journeys between Dursley and Gloucester will serve Cam & Dursley Station, with buses timed to meet trains to and from Bristol. In Gloucester, buses will run from Waterwells Drive via Telford Way, Naas Lane and Bristol Rd to serve Quedgeley stops.

In Dursley, the Lower Cam and Woodfield Estates will now be served by 62, not 60. One 62 journey in each direction will now run via the new SGS Berkeley Campus and continue from Falfield via Thornbury and Filton to Bristol city centre.

Service X62 – Stagecoach (Gloucester – Berkeley – Bristol Centre) this service has been cancelled by the operator due to poor patronage.

Service 63A – Stagecoach (Wickwar – Charfield – Stroud – Gloucester) timetable amended, no change to route within South Gloucestershire.

Service 69 – Stagecoach (Stroud – Tetbury – Westonbirt – Old Sodbury) service extended between Stroud and Old Sodbury via Minchinhampton, Avening, Tetbury, Westonbirt and Old Sodbury. Journey between Old Sodbury and Tetbury on 620 route replaced by 69 service, service 69 will connect with service 620 at Old Sodbury.

Service 75 – First (Cribbs Causeway – Filton – Bristol Centre – Hengrove) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. No change to route.

Service 76 – First (Cribbs Causeway – Henbury – Bristol Centre – Hengrove) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. No change to route.

Service 77 – Stagecoach (Thornbury Town Service – Almondsbury – Bristol Parkway – Southmead Hospital – Bristol Centre) First Bus will no longer operate Service 77. This follows a recent tender round with Bristol City Council. Stagecoach will operate the replacement for Service 77, operating hourly between Bristol and Thornbury.

The route has also been extended to serve areas of Thornbury previously covered by service 615 (see service 615 for details). During Monday to Saturday off peak during the day the service will serve Sibland Way, Rock Street, St Davies Road, Bluebell Close, Manor Walk, Thornbury Heath Centre, The Plain and Thornbury Tesco, There is no change to the route between Bristol, Southmead Hospital and Alveston.

Service 202 – Eurotaxis (Winterbourne – Yate – Chipping Sodbury) Change of operator to Eurotaxis as Severnside Transport served notice on this service. No change to route or timetable.

Service 615 – Severnside Transport (Thornbury Town Service) See service 77 for alternative hourly service. Severnside Transport have served notice on the service as it has not proved to be commercially viable to operate. South Gloucestershire Council went out to tender for a like for like replacement, however tender prices received far exceeded the budget available, making the service untenable. The service is scheduled to cease from 3rd September 2017 but an alternative service will be provided, see service 77.

Service 620 – Stagecoach (Old Sodbury – Yate – Bath) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation between Old Sodbury and Bath. Journeys between Old Sodbury and Tetbury replaced by 69 service. Last journey from Bath Bus Station Monday to Friday now at 18:45.

Service 622 – Stagecoach (Cribbs Causeway – Thornbury – Yate – Chipping Sodbury) Change of operator to Stagecoach as Severnside Transport served notice on this service. Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same. Service 627 renamed 622 for Sundays and Bank Holiday. No change to route.

Service 623 – Eurotaxis (Severn Beach – Cribbs Causeway – Hallen – Westbury – Cribbs Causeway) Change of operator to Eurotaxis as Severnside Transport served notice on this service. No change to route or timetable.

Service 626 – Eurotaxis (Wotton-under-Edge – Charfield – Cromhall – Rangeworthy – Winterbourne – Frenchay – Bristol Centre) Change of operator to Eurotaxis as Severnside Transport served notice on this service. No change to route or timetable.

Service 627 (Sunday and Bank Holidays only) – Stagecoach (Thornbury – Cribbs Causeway) Renumbered to 622, no change to route or timetable.
