Changes to bus services

Bus companies can make changes to their services by giving eight weeks’ notice to the traffic commissioner and the council. Under certain circumstances, the traffic commissioner can give permission for changes at shorter notice.

Lyde Green Park and Ride

Lyde Green Park & Ride site is located off the A4174 Rosary Roundabout on Willowherb Road. Parking is free and cycle racks available. Bus stops are situated on Willowherb Road outside the site in both directions. Metrobus route M3 and bus services 10, 86 and 462 serve these stops towards Bristol City Centre, Science Park, Yate, University of the West of England, Bristol Parkway Station and Southmead Hospital.

 

Summary of forthcoming bus service changes in South Gloucestershire

Service Change 14 May 2018

Service 620 – Stagecoach (Bath – Pucklechurch – Yate – Old Sodbury)   Due to long term road works taking place in Abson service 620 is diverted and a new temporary timetable is in place. The route from Westerleigh Road (B4465) southbound will be Abson Road, Oaktree Avenue, Abson Road, Shortwood Road (B4465), Siston Lane, Webbs Heath, London Road (A420), Homeapple Hill (A420), Riding Barn Hill (A420), Church Road (A420) to High Street (A420), to resume normal route, and northbound will be in reverse. The 1040 journey from Bath Bus Station and the 1733 from Chipping Sodbury will not serve Abson Road and Oaktree Avenue.

 

Service Change 27 May 2018

MetroBus M3 – First Bus (Emersons Green – UWE – Bristol Centre) The first MetroBus route, Service M3 will commence operating from 27 May 2018 and will link the City Centre with Emersons Green via UWE every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday between approximately 0600 and 1900 and every 30 minutes between 1900 and 2100. There will be no service on Sundays and Public Holidays.

Service M3 will operate a limited stop service and will take advantage of a number of bus priority measures along the route, including the M32 bus only junction.

Service M3 will be free of charge to use until 9 June 2018.

After 9 June 2018 tickets will need to be purchased off-bus as MetroBus does not allow for tickets to be purchased from the driver. This can be done by Metrobus iPoints, First mTicket app, Travelwest smartcards, payZone stores or Avon/Bristol rider tickets.

Service 5 – First Bus (Downend – Bromley Heath – Fishponds – Bristol Centre) the route will change between Oldbury Court and Downend with Bromley Heath additionally served. The route will now serve Bromley Heath Road, Quaker’s Road, Queensholm Drive, Four Acre Road and Badminton Road.

Bromley Heath will now have an evening and Sunday / Public Holiday service to and from Bristol Centre. There is no change to the frequency of the route.

Service 46 – First Bus (Yate – Winterbourne – Bristol Centre) timetable amended due to the completion of the Bromley Heath Viaduct, frequencies remain the same and no change to route.

Service 78 – First Bus (Thornbury – Almondsbury – Cribbs Causeway – Filton – Bristol Centre) Services 78 and 79 will be replaced by Services T1 and T2 from 27 May 2018.

Service 82 – First Bus (Chipping Sodbury – Yate – Winterbourne – Bristol Parkway – Cribbs Causeway – Southmead Hospital) Monday to Saturday journeys will extend from Yate Shopping Centre to Chipping Sodbury via Station Road and Bowling Hill. Sundays and Public Holidays will remain Yate to Southmead Hospital. Most journeys on Service 82 will now be operated by double decker vehicles.

The frequency of Service 82 will be improved to operate a more clockface hourly pattern of departures Monday to Saturday.

The frequency of buses Monday to Saturday will operate every 60 minutes while Sundays and Public Holidays operate every 120 minutes.

Service T1 – First Bus (Thornbury – Bradley Stoke – Bristol Centre) New service T1 will operate every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday daytime and every 60 minutes Sunday / Public Holiday daytime.

The route from Bristol will be via the M32, A4174, Stoke Gifford Transport Link and Bradley Stoke Way to Aztec West, then following the current Service 78/79 route to Thornbury Town Centre.

Within Thornbury, Service T1 will operate a one way loop, which will serve more of Moreton Way and will return directly to Thornbury Town Centre via Gloucester Road

Service T1 will start and terminate at Colston Street in Bristol City Centre and will not stop in Bristol Bus Station.

Service T2 – First Bus (Thornbury – Almondsbury – Cribbs Causeway – Filton – Bristol Centre) New service T2 will operate every 60 minutes Monday to Sunday and Bank Holidays.

Service T2 will effectively operate the current Service 78 route, however, will additionally serve Hortham Village.

Service X48 – First Bus (Lyde Green – Emersons Green – Bromley Heath – Bristol Centre) Service X48 will be withdrawn from 27 May 2018.

Passengers who currently use Service X48 will be able to use a number of alternative services.

MetroBus Service M3 will provide express journeys from Emersons Green and Science Park to the City Centre. Customers in Lyde Green may choose to walk to the nearest MetroBus stop.

The route of Service 5 will be amended to serve Bromley Heath and will provide a replacement throughout the day, including during the evening and on Sundays and Public Holidays.

Services 48 and 49 will continue to serve Emersons Green and Blackhorse.

Service X49 – First Bus (Chipping Sodbury – Yate – Pucklechurch – Staple Hill – Bristol Centre) Monday to Saturday journeys will extend from Yate Shopping Centre to Chipping Sodbury via Station Road and Bowling Hill. Sundays and Public Holidays will remain Yate to Bristol, Timetable amended improve reliability and punctuality with additional peak time journeys.

Service UWE – First Bus (UWE – Bristol Centre) Service UWE will be withdrawn from 27 May 2018. Passengers normally using service UWE during the summer holidays will be able to use MetroBus Service M3 for travel between the City Centre and UWE. Service M3 operates up to every 20 minutes between 0600 and 2100.

Service changes 29 April 2018

Service 3 – First Bus (Cribbs Causeway – Avonmouth – Bristol) timetable amended but frequencies remain the same with additional morning journeys on Sunday and Public Holidays. No change to route.

Service 4 – First Bus (Cribbs Causeway – Shirehampton – Bristol Centre) Timetable amended with some additional journeys at peak times Monday to Fridays and morning journeys on Sunday and Public Holidays. No change to route.

Service 6 – First Bus (Kingswood – Soundwell – Bristol Centre) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. On Sundays and Public Holidays an earlier journey from Kingswood to the City Centre is introduced. No change to route.

Service 7 – First Bus (Staple Hill – Mangotsfield – New Cheltenham – Soundwell – Bristol Centre) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. No change to route.

Service 19 – First Bus (Bath – Bitton – Cadbury Heath – Kingswood – Downend – UWE – Bristol Parkway – Cribbs Causeway) buses will now operate via Bristol Road, Frenchay Park Road and Stoke Lane in both directions instead of via A4174 Ring Road between Bromley Heath and UWE Frenchay Campus. Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation.

Service 19A – First Bus (Bath – Keynsham – Kingswood – Downend – UWE – Bristol Parkway – Cribbs Causeway) buses will now operate via Bristol Road, Frenchay Park Road and Stoke Lane in both directions instead of via A4174 Ring Road between Bromley Heath and UWE Frenchay Campus. Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation.

Service 44 – First Bus (Cadbury Heath – Hanham – Bristol Centre) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. No change to route.

Service 45 – First Bus (Cadbury Heath – Barrs Court – Hanham – Bristol Centre) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. No change to route.

Service 48 – First Bus (Emersons Green – Downend – Fishponds – Bristol Centre) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. No change to route.

Service 48A – First Bus (UWE Frenchay Campus – Stapleton – Fishponds – Bristol Centre) the Monday to Friday daytime frequency is reduced from every 10 minutes to every 20 minutes due to lower level of demand for travel to and from UWE over the summer months. No change to route.

Service 49 – First Bus (Emersons Green – Staple Hill – Fishponds – Bristol Centre) Timetable amended but frequencies remain the same across all days of operation. No change to route.

Service 49A – First Bus (Staple Hill – Fishponds – Bristol Centre) new service will operate during the AM and PM peak Monday to Friday every 20 minutes between the City Centre and Staple Hill (Page Park). This will double the frequency of buses at peak times to and from Bristol Centre from Staple Hill and Fishponds.

Service 49A will follow the same route as Service 49 between the City Centre and Page Park in Staple Hill. The service will start and terminate at the Hill House Road bus stop on South View.

Service 70– First Bus (UWE – Filton – Ashley Down – Bristol Centre – Bristol Temple Meads) the Monday to Friday daytime frequency is reduced from every 15 minutes to every 20 minutes due to lower level of demand for travel to and from UWE over the summer months. No change to route.

Service 71- First Bus (UWE – Filton – Bishopston – Bristol Centre – Bower Ashton) the Monday to Friday daytime frequency is reduced from every 15 minutes to every 20 minutes due to lower level of demand for travel to and from UWE over the summer months. No change to route.

Service UWE – First Bus (UWE Frenchay Campus – M32 – Bristol Centre) the Monday to Friday daytime frequency is reduced from every 15 minutes to every 20 minutes due to lower level of demand for travel to and from UWE over the summer months.

There will be no Saturday, Sunday or Public Holiday timetable for the remainder of the academic year. No change to route.
