Some of our online payments including garden waste and licensing will be unavailable from 2pm Thursday 28 March until midday Tuesday 2 April due to essential maintenance.

Waiting restrictions

You can suggest having waiting restrictions installed on your road or in your area if you are experiencing a particular parking issue.

We must follow a legal process and issue a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to install any waiting restrictions on the ground.

What waiting restrictions are

Examples of waiting restrictions are:

  • double yellow lines
  • single yellow lines
  • limited waiting bays

Progressing new waiting restriction schemes

We only have the resource to progress a very limited number of waiting restriction schemes each financial year. Therefore any new schemes will prioritise and focus on roads where there is evidence that serious obstruction to our waste and refuse collection vehicles is occurring on a regular basis.

How to request waiting restrictions

Complete the waiting restriction request form and email it to transportservices@southglos.gov.uk.

What happens next

Your request will be recorded onto our waiting restriction request spreadsheet.

Each financial year a very limited number of locations will be picked where waste and refuse collection vehicles are being obstructed. These locations will then be taken forward to progress through the TRO process to try and resolve the issue.

Requests received for general waiting restrictions for locations which are not associated with waste or refuse collection vehicles will still be recorded but will only be considered if waiting restrictions in your road are being reviewed.

Keep clear markings

Please note, keep clear marking are advisory markings only and are not enforceable.

Whilst we consider all requests for keep clear road markings carefully we will only introduce them in places where they are likely to be most effective.

When keep clear markings will be considered

Keep clear markings will only be considered where at least one of the following applies:

  • it may not be obvious that vehicle access is required
  • emergency vehicles or service vehicles have experienced access problems
  • there is an identified injury accident problem
  • parked vehicles obstruct pedestrian crossing points
  • at junctions where visibility is reduced

When we do not use keep clear markings

We do not provide keep clear markings to control parking across private driveways.

Keep clear markings already in place across private driveways will not generally be refreshed or maintained. This is because of concerns that drivers will not respect these markings if there are too many of them.

Introducing keep clear markings in one place often moves the parking problem to another unsuitable location.

How to request keep clear markings

You can submit a request using the contact details on this page.
