Misuse of the blue badge

Misuse is a serious offence. If you misuse the badge or allow others to misuse it, your badge can be withdrawn.

Please encourage other motorists to respect the blue badge scheme by using your blue badge correctly.

It is a criminal offence for non-disabled people to use a badge unless the badge holder is in the vehicle. You could be fined up to £1,000 for doing so. The only exception is if a non-disabled driver drops off or picks up a blue badge holder from an area accessible only to vehicles displaying the blue badge.

Remember;

  • display the badge only when using the parking benefits of the scheme
  • do not allow non-disabled people to use your blue badge. Please remove it when you are not taking advantage of parking concessions to prevent this happening accidentally
  • you should not use the badge to allow non-disabled people to take advantage of the benefits while you sit in the car
  • organisations that care for disabled people are given similar badges. Non-disabled members may not use these for their own benefit. The badges may be displayed only when the vehicle is being used for the benefit of disabled people
