South Gloucestershire Council and the Thornbury branch of the Avon Wildlife Trust are encouraging local people to come along to discuss a new Friends group to help with the management of the much-loved site.

Filnore Woods is the community woodland for Thornbury and provides a unique habitat for wildlife, a place to visit and opportunities for education.

The woodland is currently managed by the Thornbury Group of the Avon Wildlife Trust in partnership with South Gloucestershire Council.

The Thornbury Group of the Avon Wildlife Trust has prepared an action plan for the management of the woodland. Future options include management of site access, grass and woodland maintenance and community involvement.

Local people who might be interested in setting up a Friends group, or are just curious to know more, are welcome to come along.

The meeting is free to all, and refreshments will be provided.

The meeting will take place on Monday 23 April 2012, 7.30pm – 9pm and will be held in The Main Hall, Turnberries Community Centre, Bath Road, Thornbury BS35 2BB.
