From 4.30pm to 8pm tonight the Ambitions Careers event opens its doors to the public where young people and their parents can go along and talk to a diverse range of professionals – from nursing, animal health and the media to the Royal Navy, the Army and large employers based in South Gloucestershire including Airbus and Rolls Royce.

Cllr Ian Boulton, Chairman of South Gloucestershire Council, opened the event. He said: “Lots of people are working hard to attract many thousands of highly paid jobs to South Gloucestershire and we want to make sure that our residents have the knowledge, skills and attitude to be able to compete with some of the brightest brains in the world in winning and then excelling in these careers.

“This event gives students a unique and priceless opportunity to learn about realistic directions that are available to them and I hope today and tomorrow’s event will provide Year 9 pupils with a chance to learn a little more about themselves and their own ambitions for the life they want to lead.”

The event has been organised by South Gloucestershire Council in partnership with the Kingswood Partnership and is being held at the University of the West of England Exhibition & Conference Centre, BS34 8QZ. Access is via the UWE north entrance from the A4174 Ring Road, not the main university campus entrance. Parking is available on site.

The event will run again tomorrow daytime for school children in South Gloucestershire and it is estimated that around 5,000 people are expected to attend over the two days.
