More than 70 budding entrepreneurs attended the event which was opened by local celebrity Tom Herbert from Hobbs House Bakery and one half of the ‘Fabulous Baker Brothers’, along with Chair of South Gloucestershire Council, Janet Biggin.

Over the evening, several members of the Sodbury and Yate Business Association presented information on planning and setting up a new business, along with advice on sales and marketing and where to go next. This included information on book keeping, finance, competition, web design and advertising.

The opportunity for additional confidential one to one talks on other business start up topics was also offered, and representatives from Job Centre Plus were also on hand to answer questions and give out information.

Linda Banister from the Sodbury and Yate Business Association said: “The evening went really well and we were delighted with the feedback from local people who were interested in setting up their own business. The library was an ideal venue and the library staff had worked hard to maximise attendance. It was a great event for the local community and excellent to work with the library on this new initiative.”

John Abraham, Library Team Manager at South Gloucestershire Council, said: “The success of this event was due to all the partners involved working closely together. South Gloucestershire Council was very grateful to the Sodbury and Yate Business Association for their support for the evening. Libraries provide a key information service to local businesses in providing access to company information and books on marketing and setting up businesses.”
