As our Discover Festival draws to a close next week there is still time to try an activity or take up a new hobby, with plenty of events to entertain adults and children alike during the school holiday.

Sing some popular songs with the Northavon Singers at Filton Library on Saturday 25 October from 10.30am or hop aboard the music train at Avon Valley Railway in Bitton on Wednesday 29 October from 3pm.

Find out all you need to know about Verdi’s dramatic Don Carlo opera in Downend on Wednesday 29 October from 10am to 12pm. The masterpiece will be deconstructed and served up in bite-sized pieces for all to learn about and enjoy. The event is suitable for aged 12 and over and takes place at the Castle Suite, Badminton Gardens, Beaufort Road, Downend, BS16 6UE.

Take your partner by the hand and rekindle a passion for folk dancing with the French Folk Dance Club at Frenchay Village Hall. The event takes place on Wednesday 29 October between 7.45pm and 10.30pm.

Discover the ghostly goings-on in Chipping Sodbury during a Halloween walk on Friday 31 October between 7pm and 9pm. Meet at the town’s Tourist Information Centre.

These are just a small selection of events lined up in the final week of Discover Festival which is organised by South Gloucestershire Council with many events run by local residents, community groups and businesses.

Booking is essential for some of our most popular events.
