Armed Forces Day

This year’s Armed Forces Day celebration was on Saturday 24 June in Staple Hill. It was attended by approximately 16,000 people throughout the day.

Our annual Armed Forces Day event is free to attend for all, as we show our gratitude and appreciation to our past, present and future military forces from air, land and sea units.

On the day there’s a parade including veterans, cadet groups, bands and military vehicles. The procession ends in the park, where a drumhead ceremony is held by a local reverend.

There’s always a wide variety of stalls, stands and activities, including a large number of military vehicles and weapons from the past and present. The day also includes performances from singers and bands. This year’s event was supported by a number of military and community groups, including the Abbeywood HIVE, 105 REME Battalion, Bristol Military Wives Choir, City & County of Bristol Army Cadets, Air Cadets and many more.

Typically, Armed Forces Day is held in Kingswood and Staple Hill, Page Park. However in 2018 the event will take place in Thornbury to get wider coverage of South Gloucestershire. In future, it is planned to rotate between these three venues.

We are supporting the establishment of a constituted, community led Armed Forces Day Committee to run future events. If you are interested in becoming a member of this committee, please contact for more information.
