Becoming a childminder in South Gloucestershire

If you would like to work hours to suit your own family, in your own home, you may have thought about registering as a childminder. In South Gloucestershire we offer a free booklet “Pre-Registration Information for Prospective Childminders” in which we give you all of the information you need to help you decide if childminding is for you, including outlining the routes to becoming an Ofsted registered childminder.

Should you decide to become a childminder we can offer you our Childminding Introductory Course (ChIC). This course comprises a rolling programme of four parts, made up of a mix of online learning, through our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), and face to face sessions. This pre-registration course covers a range of topics including:

  • Safeguarding/Child protection
  • Working in partnership with families
  • Observations, assessment and planning
  • Business and registration

Full details, including how to book, are available in the booklet “Pre-Registration Information for Prospective Childminders“. Access to the internet is essential to enable you to complete this course.

Support for childminders
