Nature - getting involved

If you are interested in your local environment, you are very welcome to join an environmental link group.

Environmental link groups

There are five of these for different areas of South Gloucestershire. Each group shares information, discusses environmental and countryside issues, develops project ideas and raises as well as solves problems.

Each group meets three times a year, during February, June and October and anyone is welcome to attend. There are usually representatives from parish councils, environmental and conservation groups as well as interested individuals.

Dates of meetings:

If you would like to be added to the mailing list for the environmental link groups or require further information please contact us.

Friends groups

Many of our local nature reserves and open spaces are managed by friends groups. They all welcome new members.

Volunteer opportunities

Many of our partnership organisations have volunteer opportunities ranging from one day hedgelaying to long-term wildlife projects. Their websites provide more details.

  • Avon Wildlife Trust have workdays every Wednesday and Sunday on their reserves across the district. Lower Woods also has weekly practical work days run by Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust
  • TCV (The Conservation Volunteers) have practical workdays every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. They also have volunteers at the Tree Life Centre in Kingswood
