Dangerous structures, derelict buildings and demolitions

Dangerous structures

When a building or structure is in a dangerous condition, for example following a fire, storm damage or impact from a vehicle, we will ensure that necessary steps are taken to protect the safety of the public. We can only ensure that the building or structure is made safe and cannot undertake reinstatement works.

We operate a 24-hour emergency call out system. Let us know on 01454 868004 if you find a building that appears to be in a dangerous condition.

Derelict buildings

When a building is unsecured or in a derelict condition we will ensure that necessary steps are taken to protect the safety of the public. If the building needs securing immediately we will arrange this. Otherwise, we can serve a notice on the owner requiring them to secure the building.

If you find a building that appears to be derelict, please contact us during normal office hours.

Demolitions

If you intend to demolish a building over 50m3, you must let us know. This is a requirement of the Building Act of 1984. You can download a form to let us know.
