In year school admissions

How to apply for a place at an infant, junior, primary or secondary school in South Gloucestershire during the academic school year.

In-Year Applications for academic year 2017/18

Application forms for a South Gloucestershire school are obtainable from any South Gloucestershire school.

Secondary School in 2017/18

Applications must be made directly to the school, no matter where you live. Parents/carers are able to make 3 preferences on the form and it should be returned to the first preference school.

If it is not possible to offer your child a place at your first preference school, a copy of the form will be passed to the school named as a second preference.

Academy, Foundation and Voluntary Aided Schools may require completion of a supplementary form.

Proof of your address may be required.

The school will notify parent/carers of the outcome of the application. If a school is unable to offer your child a place they will advise you:

  • of the reason they cannot offer a place
  • of the appeal process
  • of any opportunity to remain on a waiting list for a place, and
  • forward your form to the lower preference school for consideration.

Infant/Junior/Primary School in 2017/18

Where you return the form depends upon the school.

Voluntary Aided, Academy and Foundation Schools may require completion of a supplementary form.

Proof of address maybe required.

The school will notify parent/carers of the outcome of the application. If a school is unable to offer your child a place they will advise you –

  • of the reason they cannot offer a place
  • of the appeal process
  • of any opportunity to remain on a waiting list for a place, and

If your first preference school is a Community or Controlled School – return the form to the Admissions & Transport Team at South Gloucestershire Council who will notify you of the outcome of the application and if necessary forward a copy of the form to the lower preference school if it is a VA, Academy or Foundation School.
