Council tax - moving house

Tell us about a change of address

When it comes to moving house, there are many things to remember and many people to tell including getting your council tax account updated.

Whether you are moving out of South Gloucestershire, into the area or just within the area, the information we require is as follows;

Moving out of the area

  • your full name
  • your billing number
  • your current address
  • your new address (so that we can issue any refund to you)
  • the completion date if the property was sold including the names of the new owners
  • the tenancy end date if the property was rented including your landlords name
  • the date you moved out (if different to above)

Moving into the area

  • your full name
  • your new address
  • the completion date if the property was purchased
  • the tenancy start date if the property is rented including your landlords name
  • the date you moved in (if different to above)

Moving within the area

  • your full name
  • your billing number
  • your current address
  • your new address
  • the completion date of your current property if it was sold including the names of the new owners
  • the completion date of your new property if it was purchased
  • the tenancy end date of your property if it was rented including your landlords nameĀ and address
  • the tenancy start date of your new property if it is rented including your landlords nameĀ and address
  • the date you moved out of your old property and into your new property (if different to above)

Please note that under normal circumstances if moving within the area, any credit from your old address will automatically be transferred to your new address. If this is not to be the case, you will be notified accordingly.

If you usually pay by Direct Debit and move within the area, these details will be transferred to your new account.
