Standing for election

Elections are held for district councillors and town and parish councils every four years. The next local elections in South Gloucestershire are scheduled to take place on Thursday 2 May 2019.

People stand for election for many reasons:

  • to represent the local community and help local people
  • to pursue a particular local issue or concern
  • to improve the quality of life in their area
  • to pursue their political beliefs

Democratic local government is all about local people getting involved in the issues affecting their community. Information about how to stand for election will be available around six months before the scheduled date of poll.
