Parliamentary general elections

There are three constituencies in our area:

  • Filton and Bradley Stoke Constituency
  • Kingswood Constituency
  • Thornbury and Yate Constituency

Each constituency is represented by one Member of Parliament.

A UK parliamentary general election is taking place on 8 June 2017. A statutory timetable providing key election dates is available in the downloads section.

If you are already registered to vote or applied to register to vote before the deadline for the 4 May 2017 mayoral election, you do not need to register again.

If you are not registered to vote, you will need to register to vote by midnight on 22 May 2017 to vote at the UK general election. The quickest way to register to vote is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

If you are going to be away on 8 June 2017 or if you will be unable to attend a polling station you can apply for an absent vote. An absent vote is either a postal vote or a proxy vote (where you appoint another person to vote on your behalf).

The deadline for registering to vote by post or for changing or cancelling existing absent voting arrangements is 5pm on 23 May 2017.

If you wish to apply for a new proxy vote the deadline is 5pm on 31 May 2017.

Forms to apply for an absent vote are available by contacting the elections helpline on 01454 863030 or by emailing electoral.services@southglos.gov.uk
