Fees for registrations and ceremonies

Births and deaths

Birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificates issued at the time of the registration cost £4. A birth, death or marriage certificate issued by the registrar after the date of registration costs £7 until the register is deposited with the superintendent registrar. A birth, death or marriage certificate issued by the superintendent registrar costs £10. All civil partnership certificates issued after registration cost £10 as the civil partnership record is held in the custody of the superintendent registrar.

Please note that from 16 February 2019 new certificate fees will apply: all certificates will cost £11, from initial registration to replacement copies.

Please check with the Register Office if we have your registration before applying. We can only supply a certificate for events registered in South Gloucestershire, which does not include births in hospitals or maternity units in Bristol, Bath or Gloucestershire. Some marriage registers are still with the Church where the wedding took place, in which case you will need to apply to the Minister at the Church if we cannot supply the certificate.

Marriages

The cost of giving a notice of intention to marry is £35, payable at the time the notice is given by debit or credit card. Each party must give their own notice in person to the superintendent registrar.

New fees from 1 November 2017

The General Register Office has introduced new or additional fees for some statutory services with effect from 1 November 2017. These are fees where a child’s forename(s) are changed within 12 months of registration; where corrections to entries are required; where divorces or civil partnership dissolutions granted outside the British Isles are involved when giving notice of marriage or civil partnership; and where an application to waive the statutory waiting period of 28 days before a marriage is made.

Registration service fees from 1 April 2018

All fees are inclusive of the statutory registration fee and one marriage or civil partnership certificate. A non-refundable booking fee of £50 is taken when the ceremony is booked. This is deducted from the balance of fees which are due eight weeks before the ceremony.
