Farming - horse registration

All horses (including ponies, asses, mules and donkeys) must be registered.

Registration must take place before 31st December in the year the horse was born or within six months of being born, whichever is the longer. A horse must be registered before it is moved.

Imported horses must be registered within 30 days of arrival. This does not apply if their stay will be less than 30 days.

Horses registered with the New Forest Verderers or Dartmoor Commoners Council shall only require a passport on being moved from these areas.

Failure to comply with this regulation may result in prosecution. If convicted you may face a either a heavy penalty, imprisonment or both.
